Chef Lily and Chef Travis met at Johnson & Wales University in Denver Colorado in 2013. They worked well together and were inspired by each other despite coming from very different backgrounds.
Chef Lily found her love for cooking at an early age helping her grandparents and her father who cooked traditional Filipino cuisine. In 2006 she moved from the Philippines to Denver Colorado to pursue her dreams of becoming a chef.
Chef Travis grew up in Arvada, Colorado where he found his inspiration and love for cooking. He enrolled at Warren Tech Culinary School to learn his craft. He left Colorado at age 19 to pursue his dreams, working with a catering company in Fort Lauderdale, the PGA National Resort and Frenchman’s Creek Country Club near Palm Beach. After several years working in commercial kitchens Travis decided it was time to make his dreams come true. Never losing his love for cooking he returned to Colorado in 2013 when he met Lily at Johnson and Wales.
Travis and Lily were together on New Year’s Eve at a catering event in Vail Colorado. The time was right! They took the leap of faith selling everything they owned, leaving their families behind to move to Palm Coast Florida.
They purchased a concession trailer and named it Kusina Azul, representing “kitchen” in the Philippines and the “blue” of the ocean that they always dreamed of returning to.
After meeting Kelly and Brendan, owners of the Village Garden, they renamed their business Kusina Colorado, where they continue to create amazing Pilipino, and Colorado inspired flavors.
